Hundenes katakomber i Sakkara

I oldtidens Ægypten var det ikke kun mennesker, som kunne modtage en udførlig begravelse. Dyremumier på ægyptiske begravelsespladser og i samlinger på museer verden over vidner om, at også dyr blev gjort klar til et evigt liv. Højtelskede kæledyr kunne blive mumificeret og lagt tæt op af deres herrer; formentlig i håbet om at de sammen kunne fortsætte et liv efter døden. Helt særlige dyr blev udpeget og tilbedt som inkarnationer af ægyptiske guder, der som oftest er afbildet som halvt dyr og halvt menneske. Det kunne være væddere og krokodiller, der blev udvalgt som inkarnationer af den vædderhovedede ........
